She went to sleep, never to wake up again. We knew it was coming, last night, her doctor told us that she wouldn't be with us much longer. He told us that we should start counting in days, instead of weeks, but no one saw it coming that she would pass away the next morning. She got to say goodbye to everyoneexcept for me.
While everyone was with her, I had to work. I am relieved that her suffering has ceased, but I wish I could have told her the things I wanted to say. I still wanted to thank her for her beautiful daughter, I still wanted to call her 'mom' just once and I still wanted to get some of her great recipes. But I guess that nothing needed to be said, that all was good, as she slipped away quietly, before I had the chance to talk to her.

Monday, November 19, Rest in peace sweet mother-in-law; thank you for the gift of your daughter. Lynn V Holden, - She met me as a bunch of kids were playing ball in Wendy's front yard one day, she thought I was being mean to a next door neighbor and she came outside and told me to go home and to not come back until I would be better behaved.
Well I came back, she welcomed me with open arms and she would become my mother-in-law for over 41 years and then she became "Momsy" when my son, pictured with her below, came along in Lynn, aka "Momsy", took a terrible fall on June 2nd and has had one medical emergency after another. Finally this week, her tired body just grew too tired and this morning, aroundwent to her eternal rest, peacefully, surrounded by her daughters, her two sons in law and granddaughter Elizabeth, our youngest.
We will miss her but we will remember the great times and good memories and we pray for her, asking God to shower her with mercy and peace. As a Catholic, she loved the Rosary so if you may be so inclined, offer a Rosary for Lynn. Of course all prayers are welcome. For me, I will miss her too but today as I prayed for her and over her I whispered what I guess I never had told her before: thank you for the gift of your girl who became my wife.
I am forever indebted to you! The picture I selected was from Elizabeth's wedding a few years ago, walking up the aisle escorted by her oldest grandchild, our son James. This was a happy moment for her, a happy time.

She fought a hard and courages fight right up to the end. Her services are pushed back to the end of the week so my wife can have her nineteenth round of her chemo treatment. Needless to say, times have not been very easy this past year. But my mother in law is in peace and out of pain. Now I get to watch my wife fight for every last bit of life she can get and be with her til the end.
Like her mom, she is also considered stage 4. If there is one thing this past year has taught me, in the words of a favorite of mine, Warren Zevon, who also passed away from cancer ten years ago, is to enjoy every sandwich.
Which I will do for what ever time we have remaining. To my mother in law Betty, may you rest in peace. I will see you again some day. Love you always. I am so sorry to hear that your mother-in-law has passed, but you are right she is now free of the earthly ills.
May she be at peace. You definitely are having more than your fair share of cancer-related grief. I hope the passing of time brings a little peace to your family.
Thank you all for your kind words. It has been a tough year. I could sit here and feel sorry for myself. But I refuse to do that. I will take what ever fate deals me with a smile on my face. You see, I have been blessed with the greatest wife and kids in the world. All I have ever asked for was to live one day longer than my loving wife.
I would die a happy man. My MIL had a tough life, she deserved a much better ending to her story. That is what I feel the worst about. She spent her life takng care of every one but herself. In the end it was all we could do but sit there and hold her hand as she slipped away. My wife just had her 19th treatment with no end in sight. She is my hero, my rock. To feel pity for myself would be an insult to her, my MIL and everyone on this board who has passed before me. My troubles pale in comparision to pretty much everyone on this board fighting the ultimate fight.
You all, including my wife and mother in law have my ultimate respect.Goodbye Song for Mum
I pray for everyone suffering for peace and happiness. God Bless you all. Your Mother in law sounds like a great person! My condolences I lost my mom on Friday to this horrible disease.
You need to fight.
